As a Gen X’er, talking about yourself can feel a little cringey and narcissistic. We grew up in an era when we were only starting to understand computers and were still entertained by going to the local roller-skating rink and pashing the hottest dude in town after downing a chocolate Big M. We gave less shits about how we looked, or taking photos of ourselves (who even knew what a selfie was back then?) We were hardcore. HA!
In the spirit of hoping people from all generations may want to read my blog, I’m going to embrace the shit out of telling my story and maybe one day, connecting with yours.
So here goes …
I’m Amber.
‘I am a child-free, bisexual, teetotaller, non-coffee drinker(gasp!), menopausal, middle-aged woman with IBS (Poo is a common theme in my book. Sorry), PTSD and a dose of OCD, wannabe drag queen (some say I’ve already achieved this), an extroverted Buddhist, from a family of artists and performers.
Over the past five decades of my life, I’ve been told I am a multitude of things …
Crazy, a misfit, unique, weird, funny, bipolar, ADHD, depressed, anxious, hyperactive, sensitive, creative, bizarre, adventurous, optimistic, pessimistic, intelligent, stupid, commitment-phobic, Peter Pan, sweet, a cow-worshipping satanist (this one really got me giggling), smiley, outrageous.
Now that’s a LOT of adjectives!!
This list is endless. BUT, I’ve never been called boring. Phew!
I’ve had 64 jobs (so far). I’m often asked if there’s anything I haven’t done. Hmmm, well, I’ve never been a mother, a politician or an accountant. I’d be equally terrible at all of them. But I am willing to give most things a go.
I am a collector of stories, an adventure seeker, and a willing participant in the unique, weird, and quirky aspects of life. I make zero apologies for living an unconventional life or not subscribing to the notion that we should all live the same life and not question anything about the ‘rules’ of society. My life motto is ‘Question everything’.
When I’m not writing, I’m being bossed around by our French Bulldog, Boho. He is the master of our house. He tells us what, where and how we can do things. My husband, Greg, and I do as we’re told.
I love to dance, to meander in nature and to scoff down a huge bag of crisps.
I am an open book, ready to share my story xx
